Deltron Equipment & Systems Pvt. Ltd.
Non-Vital Display Multiplexer
Introduction
Non-Vital Mux System with SIL-2 Certified PSS4000 Safety PLCs is a Proven, Future-Ready Display & Monitoring Solution for Indian Railways. As it expands capacity and operational efficiency, the demand for real-time, accurate, and safe field status displays has become imperative. To address this, Deltron Equipment & Systems Pvt. Ltd. presents its advanced Non-Vital Multiplexer (NV-MUX) solution — a robust, scalable system based on SIL-2 certified PSS4000 safety PLCs robust enough for handling non-safety critical yet important non-vital signalling applications.
This state-of-the-art solution facilitates live monitoring and display especially in Automatic Block Signalling of:
-
Automatic Block Section (ABS) track occupancy
-
Signal aspects, Axle Counter status and failure alerts
-
Level Crossing (LC) gate positions
-
Fire alarm status
-
And other site-specific field input data
Displays are made available both locally at end stations and, where required, centrally at Divisional Test Rooms, supporting superior operational oversight and response.

Hot-Standby Non-Vital Mux Arrangement
System Architecture & Core Capabilities
The NV-MUX operates on a redundant hot-standby system architecture, ensuring uninterrupted function and seamless fault recovery. Its Central Unit (CU) acts as the decision-making node, capable of managing up to 63 Field Units (FUs) — each supporting 256 I/O points. The architecture can handle in excess of 10,000 discrete inputs/outputs, all processed in less than 100 milliseconds.
Core hardware components include:
-
Central and Field Units (PSS4000 series)
-
Input/Output modules (potential-free or 24V DC contact sensing)
-
Industrial-grade unmanaged Ethernet switches
-
Ethernet to OFC converters
-
DIN-rail based power and connector modules

Display Simplicity with Industrial PCs
A key feature of the NV-MUX system is its display compatibility with standard industrial PCs, which are already widely deployed across Indian Railways. There is no need for specialised visualisation hardware or proprietary software — field data is relayed in real-time to existing PCs at end stations, with optional extension to central monitoring rooms. This makes the system cost-effective, easily maintainable, and quick to deploy.
Communication is managed over industrial Ethernet and OFC (optical fibre cables), ensuring reliable data transmission across long distances, even in electromagnetically noisy or remote environments.

Widespread Implementation Across Indian Railways

Deltron’s NVMUX system has already been commissioned or is under advanced execution across more than 110 stations, covering approximately 1,800 route kilometres of automatic signalling territory — a testament to its performance, reliability, and ease of integration. Deployed Zones Include:

-
Southern Railway (SR)
-
North-East Frontier Railway (NFR)
-
Eastern Railway (ER)
-
West Central Railway (WCR)
-
South Central Railway (SCR)
-
Western Railway (WR)
-
